Half the battle of learning a new language is having the confidence to speak and make mistakes. When you are trying to express yourself in a new language it is often very important to just get your message across quickly and communicate without worrying about your grammar or pronunciation too much i.e. we need to produce fluent language. The teacher needs to provide speaking activities that will develop the confidence and the skills necessary for this and help bridge the gap between the classroom and the “real world”. Students can learn and take note from other students. Cannot rely totally on teachers to teach. Poorer students can learn from brighter students. Speak-listen-practice.
